Social-Emotional Development

Put Your Feather

Give your child a craft feather to play a game.  Ask your child to put the feather on various parts of their body, such as on their knee, on their toe, on their head, by their nose, on their back, on top of their hand, or on their elbow.  Continue playing the game as long as your child shows interest.

Cognitive Development

Feather Play

Challenge children to blow a craft feather up into the air and then try to keep it aloft by continuing to blow air.  What tools can you use to keep the feather aloft?  Use a fan, a straw, an empty squeeze bottle and see which ones will work the best.

Language Development

Five Little Ducks

Watch and sing The Five Little  Ducks song on online with your child at https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FG6GXdUOR_Y. Ask your child where they think the ducks were and what they were doing when they didn’t come back.

Physical Literacy

Chicken Dance

Time for a classic!  Hum or play the song, The Chicken Dance with your child.  You can find it here, too. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=npp1z32idrc  This dance has easy actions for your toddler to participate in.  Include all your family members and have a Chicken Dance Party.

Creative Activity

Feather Painting

Invite your child to paint using a sturdy craft feather as a paintbrush.  Paint with your child.  Talk with your child about feathers.  Point out that feathers repel water. Discuss how feathers keep ducks warm in cold weather and dry when they are in water.  Describe the marks your child is making and how the colours are mixing.
