Firework Breath 

Sometimes children have so much energy that releasing it through active breathing helps them relax. Try this technique with your child to release their excess energy.
• Lower yourself into a squat position while your palms are pressed together.
• Take a deep breath through your nose.
• Exhale while you jump and shoot your arms straight up and out.
• Repeat 3 times.

Brown Bear Brown Bear What Do You See Memory Game

Taken from the classic children’s book by Eric Carle Brown Bear Brown Bear is a wonderful activity to support memorization and matching.
Simply print out the photos below and place them on a table, or floor mat face down. Have your child try and match the cards by flipping each one over searching for the correct match.

Caterpillar Word Puzzle

‘The Very Hungry Caterpillar’ by Eric Carle is one of the most well-known children’s books and a classic favourite. If you happen to have a copy at home, go ahead and read it! Once you have read or viewed the story, print out the puzzles below, and support your child in recognizing letters that make up the words from the story!

Additional activity – with a piece of paper go on a community walk with your child. As you take a stroll around your area, see if you can spot some community helpers around. Write them down as you see them and upon reaching home go over the list and see if they can remember what types of community helpers were around!

Physical Literacy

Spider Web Walk

Engage in some physical movement with this spider web walk inspired by Eric Carle’s ‘The Vey Busy Spider’
All that is needed is painters’ tape and an open floor space. Once you have successfully gathered your materials, simply create a spider web like the photo below. Next comes the fun part! Have your child walk the spider's web in any way they want, incorporating movements such as hopping, crawling, rolling, and balancing on the lines. To add more to this activity, gather up small toys such as plastic insects, placing it in the open gaps, and have your child gather as much as they can using various locomotor movements.

Mosaic Chameleon

Let’s get colourful with this mosaic creative based on Eric Carle’s ‘A Colour of his Own’.
Print out the chameleon outline below and gather the following items
• Multi coloured construction paper
• Glue
• Scissors
Next, cut varying sizes of construction paper and have your child glue it onto the printout. Encourage your child to use different colours for the Chameleon.
