Social-Emotional Development

Calming Strategy - Moo

Invite your child to get on all fours like a cow. Have them inhale deeply and then exhale slowly while making a soft mooing sound. Repeat three times, mooing more softly and more slowly each time.

Cognitive Development

Clap, Jump, Hop

0–9 Digit Cards

Stack numeral cards 0-9 face down on a table or floor. Have your child choose the top card and then clap that many times. Continue until all cards have been chosen. For subsequent numerals, they can choose what movement to do. For example, jump, hop on one foot, turn around, tap knees, pat head, touch toes, etc.

Language Development

Old MacDonald Had a Farm

Sing Old MacDonald Had a Farm with your child. Point out a couple of onomatopoeia (on-uh-mat-uh-pee-uh) words, words which imitate a sound. For example, moo and oink. Then help your child come up with other onomatopoeia words from the song.

Physical Literacy

Galloping Fun

Set up a simple circular path outside for your child to practice galloping like a horse. Show them how to gallop and encourage them as they try out this movement. Encourage them to move around the path by galloping.

Creative Activity

Vegetable Stamping

When preparing vegetables for dinner, save the cut off pieces for vegetable stamping. Encourage your child to dip vegetable pieces in paint and then stamp onto paper. Some vegetables that work well are carrots, celery, broccoli and peppers.
