Practical Life

Walk the Line

Place a strip of masking tape, painters’ tape or string taped to the floor. Encourage infants to walk or crawl on the line. Create a challenge by adding in zig zag pattern to walk on.

Language Activity

Tiny and Gigantic Stars

Sing “Twinkle, Twinkle, Little Star” with your infant, using hand motions to keep infants engaged.  Vary the song by using a tiny voice for a tiny star.  Vary one more time by using a gigantic voice for a gigantic star

Social-Emotional Development

My turn, Your turn

Sit across from your infant.  With legs open and feet touching each other, roll a ball between you and your infant.  Verbalize “my turn” and “your turn” as you roll the ball to each other.

Cognitive Development

Real Object Match

Trace the outline of the objects, such as a rattle, puzzle piece, and eating utensil, onto sheets of paper. Support your infant to match each item to its outline. Expand on this by adding in more objects and outlines. Label the items as you play and add the words “ same ” and “different”

Creative Activity

Paint with water

Using water encourage infants to paint on construction paper. Discuss how the paper is getting darker, and how the texture of the paper is changing. If you do have construction paper, use fabric as the canvas, such as a scarf or a facecloth.
