At BrightPath Hartford, we believe that learning to connect with others is just as important as learning to read or count. That’s why we make social development a key part of every child’s day—from babies to preschoolers. Helping children build friendships and develop strong social skills is at the heart of what we do, and it starts with the caring and intentional work of our educators.
Encouraging Teamwork & Togetherness
One of the most powerful ways children learn to be social is through working together. At BrightPath Hartford, teamwork is built into our daily routines and activities. Whether it’s group art projects, dramatic play, or building something together in the block area, children are constantly encouraged to share, take turns, and problem-solve together.
Our centers also work as a team! Across the Hartford area, our schools collaborate on community activities and projects, creating an extended network of friendships for both children and families.
A Curriculum That Celebrates Diversity & Connection
Our play-based curriculum is thoughtfully designed to connect children with peers who share similar interests, while also celebrating the unique backgrounds and home lives of each family. Children engage in themed units of study each month that bring them together through hands-on learning, storytelling, and play.
We also incorporate American Sign Language and other languages into the classroom to support communication and inclusion for all learners. Families are invited to take part in the classroom by reading books, performing music, or sharing traditions from their cultures—helping children see the value in every person’s story.
Learning Through Empathy: A Real-Life Classroom Example
One activity our educators love involves creating a "Kindness Tree" in the classroom. Each time a child helps a friend, shares a toy, or says something kind, they add a leaf to the tree. Over time, the tree grows and becomes a visual celebration of empathy and compassion. Activities like these help children recognize the impact of their actions and build strong emotional awareness.
Community Events That Bring Everyone Together
Social development doesn’t stop at the classroom door. Our centers host regular community events where families of all age groups can come together. These fun gatherings give children the chance to see their friends outside of school—and parents the opportunity to build connections with one another.
In May, we proudly celebrate Week of the Young Child, a special time dedicated to fostering learning in areas like music, movement, and literacy, all while promoting social bonding through shared experiences. As an NAEYC-accredited program, we’re committed to creating meaningful learning environments where children thrive.
What Families Are Saying
We’re honored to hear from families who’ve seen their children blossom socially at BrightPath Hartford. Parents often share how impressed they are with their child’s growing language skills and ability to form friendships. Many love the open communication we provide through our Lillio app and during parent-teacher conferences, where we share updates on each child’s unique journey.
Families also appreciate that we meet children exactly where they are. Whether it’s language development, potty training, or emotional growth, we support each child at their own pace, without comparisons or pressure. We even welcome outside services when needed to ensure every child gets the support they deserve.
Growing Up Social, the BrightPath Way
At BrightPath Hartford, social development is more than just a lesson, it’s part of the fabric of our community. By nurturing empathy, embracing diversity, and fostering teamwork, we help children not only make friends, but learn how to be good friends, too.
We’re proud to be a place where children feel seen, supported, and celebrated, every step of the way.
