Cognitive Development

Measuring Cup Nesting

Provide your infant with a set of measuring cups.  Demonstrate how the cups come apart from each other and then nest them back together.  Describe the sizes of the cups (smaller, bigger).  Encourage your infant to explore the cups and try nesting them independently.

Physical Literacy

Pillow Obstacle Course

Lay several pillows on the floor in a path.  Model crawling over the pillows and invite your infant to follow you.  Crawling is an important fundamental movement skill that helps infants build upper body strength.

Social-Emotional Development

Happy Faces, Sad Faces

Sing the song, “If You’re Happy and You Know It” with your infant.  As you sing the song, modify your facial expressions to match the song.  (Sad, Angry, Scared)

Language Development

“Where is?”

Share photos of family members.  Ask your child to identify family members.  Identify photos that children need help with.  Play “Where is…?” and pick different family members.  Celebrate when your child finds the photo you mentioned.

Creative Activity

Ball Track Designs

Place a sheet of drawing or construction paper inside a deep box or a cake pan.  Dip a small ball in paint and then place it inside the box or pan.  Show your infant how to move the box to roll the ball around.  Describe how you see the designs emerging.
