Emergent

A component of the afternoon is based on the Emergent approach. The emergent method allows the Montessori Guides to plan the environment, giving the children choices, based on their interests, skills and needs. It is child-initiated and allows for student-led expeditions, inquiries and investigations. The learning process is more important than the end product and it allows the Montessori Guides opportunities to reflect on what learning has taken place. The journey may occur over a series of days, weeks or months.

Another element of our emergent approach is “Project Work” which allows children to study a topic in more depth over a period of days or weeks and can involve a small group or the whole class.
