Meet The Manotick Team

Principal

Jenny Cobill, B.A., B.ED

Principal

Hello. My name is Jenny Cobill and I am the Centre Director of Manotick Montessori. I have always been drawn to working with children and have done so in numerous capacities. I have volunteered in many schools and with various age groups. I also volunteered as a Canskate Program Assistant for 4 years and was Head Program Assistant of the Special Olympics group for 3 years. During this time, I gained the patience and leadership needed to aid in the development of children. I worked in a childcare facility for 4.5 years working with children aged 0-6 years. While working, I completed a Bachelor of Arts degree in Psychology from Carleton University and a Bachelor of Education from the University of Ottawa with high honours focusing on the Primary/Junior level. My interest in Montessori early childhood education led me to Manotick Montessori where I began working in the CASA room in 2013. I fell in love with the Montessori philosophy and knew this is where I needed to be. Throughout my work, I gained invaluable and in-depth experience with the Montessori Curriculum. I was then promoted to the position of Summer Camp Supervisor allowing me to further my knowledge and leadership within the centre. I feel honoured to have been selected as Centre Director for this exceptional centre and look forward to the rewarding years ahead. I look forward to meeting all of you and being part of another successful year at Manotick Montessori!

Toddler 2 Head Directress

Hello, I am Mirka Sammon and I am the Toddler 2 Head Directress at Manotick Montessori. I grew up in Brno, in the Czech Republic where I attended Masaryk University. I trained to become a teacher specializing in Physical Education and Russian. After completing my post-secondary studies, I came to Canada and worked as a live-in caregiver for three years taking care of two small children. I volunteered for the Bayview School literacy program in Ottawa South and also chaperoned skating, snowshoeing and classroom activities. I have been involved in teaching rhythmic gymnastics, life guarding and Running Room Clinics. I have always been interested in physical activities and am an active participant in local marathon and triathlon races. I feel that it is very important to stimulate young children and get them involved in recreation. Developing a healthy, active lifestyle at a young age will carry through into adulthood. I have worked at Manotick Montessori since 2001 and I completed my Toddler Montessori Training in 2014. I look forward to contributing to the success of the Manotick Montessori Program.

Toddler 2 Co-Head Directress

Hello, I am Robyn Smith, mother of two amazing children. I grew up in Kanata. I live an active lifestyle, enjoy keeping healthy and run half marathons for fun. My entire career has been devoted to working with children. I attended Brock University in St Catherines and graduated in 1995 with a Bachelor of Arts, majoring in Child Studies. After graduation, I began as a Montessori Casa Assistant. I respected and appreciated the Montessori method, so during the summer of 1997, I enrolled in Montessori training at the Montreal Montessori Training Centre. I received a Casa AMI diploma (Association Montessori Internationale). With a partner, I opened and operated Manotick Montessori centre for five years. After my second child was born, I returned as an employee. In 2011, I also became a Registered Early Childhood Educator. For 15 years, I was not only Head Directress of my own Casa class, but have taught art to elementary students, worked in the Extended Care program and collaborated in summer daycamps. I look at each of the children in my class as a member of our classroom family. I am excited at the opportunity to work in the toddler class. As a former Casa Directress, knowing the expectations, will allow me to better prepare all my toddlers for success.

Hello, my name is Hala Makhoul and I am very happy to be part of the wonderful Manotick Montessori team as a French instructor. I am originally from Lebanon where I obtained my Bachelors in French Literature and my diploma in Education. I came to Canada in 2006 and I taught at Manotick Montessori in 2005-2006. After that, I took some time off to take care of my son who is now seven years old. From 2006 until 2014 I taught in several private and public schools in Ottawa. I rejoined Manotick Montessori in 2014 and am very excited to continue in this wonderful centre. Since my studies in university, I was always interested in the Montessori Method where I learned that education is considered an “aid to life”. I have started my studies toward gaining my Montessori instructor certification in the summer of 2015. I am looking forward to meeting all the children in the very special environment of Manotick Montessori on the hope of inspiring them to give their best in learning the fascinating French language.
