Social-Emotional Development

Feather Tickles

Play tickle games, such as this one, with a craft feather.
‘Round the lake, ‘round the lake
Goes the little drake.
Up the hill, up the hill
Into his little “nestle.”

Cognitive Development

Sink and Float

Provide a small tub of water with a collection of sink-or-float items (feather, plastic lid, leaf, small block, spoon). Invite your child to test each item to see if it sinks or floats.

Language Development

Ping Pong Name Push

Using a shoe box, cut out enough holes for each letter of your child’s name.  Label a ping pong ball with each letter from your child’s name.  Encourage your child to push the balls through the holes into the box.  Identify each letter as your child pushes them through.

Physical Literacy

Duck Search

Hide rubber ducks throughout your home or in your backyard.  Search for them with your toddler.  If you do not have ducks, use plastic eggs or rocks.

Creative Activity

Building a Nest

Gather materials from your backyard or on a neighbourhood walk such as dried grass, small sticks, craft feathers and a small basket.  Encourage your toddler to put the materials together to create a nest.
