Social-Emotional Development

Calming Strategy - Drain

Let’s review the Drain. This calming strategy helps release tension in your body.

Hold both arms out in front of your body. Make your hands into fists. While taking a deep breath in, squeeze tight the muscles in your body. As you exhale, release the tension in your muscles while making a ‘Ssshhh’ sound.

Cognitive Development

Visit to the Aquarium

Go visit the Monterey Bay Aquarium online. You and your child will be able to view several ocean animals on their 10 live webcams.  You can view real life examples of sharks, sea turtles, sting rays, eels, a variety of fish, jellyfish and more.

Language Development

Ocean Animals Big & Small

Work with your child to make two lists of ocean animals. One of big ocean animals and one of small ocean animals. Encourage your child to help writing the lists based on their ability. They may be able to write some of the words or letters with help or they may be able to identify some of the letters that you write. Accept all attempts.

Physical Literacy

Clamming for Marbles

Fill a wading pool or other suitable container with a couple of inches of water. Put some marbles or marble size rocks into the pool. Have your child climb into the water and gather the marbles using their feet. Great activity for balance.

Creative Activity

Painting to Ocean Sounds

Encourage your child to draw or paint an ocean picture while listening to the sounds of ocean waves. There are several choices on YouTube.
