Physical Literacy

Walk Like a Goat

Indoors or outdoors, invite children to take steps like a little goat, a middle-sized goat and a big goat.  Model these movements with exaggeration, adding the descriptive words as you move.  “I’m walking like a BIG goat”

Language Development

The Three Billy Goats Gruff

Read the book “The Three Billy Goats Gruff” with your child. Adjust your voice per character (small voice, medium voice and big voice) Ask questions during the reading:
“Where were the goats going?” “Which goat went first?”
Need this story?  Go to brightpathkids.com for a reading video.

Social-Emotional Development

Making Shakes

Include children in making shakes, taking turns as they add their contributions.
1/3 cup fresh fruit or juice concentrate
1 banana (sliced)
1 cup milk
½ cup ice cubes
Combine all ingredients in a blender. Blend until frothy.

Cognitive Development

Drum Play

Provide small boxes to use as drums.  Lead children in playing their “drum” to a song.
Boom, boom goes the drum.
Boom, boom goes the drum.
Boom, boom goes the drum.
Boom, boom, boom, boom, BOOM!

Creative Activity

Building a Bridge

Using recycled items such as paper towel rolls, boxes and tape, build a bridge with your child. Decorate the bridge with crayons, markers, etc.  Narrate your actions and your child’s work. “You are making big purple marks on top of the bridge.” “I added a circle under the bridge.” When completed, use toy animals to walk across the bridge, on top of the bridge or under the bridge.”
